This page will be dedicated to the hardware specifications, descriptions, and information related to the Vizio Co-Star (VAP430).

Purchase

Buying Google TV devices is expensive and, in a lot of cases our testing leads to bricked equipment. If you would like to help support our group, site, and research please use one of the links below to purchase your next Google TV.

Purchase the Vizio Co-Star at Amazon

Specs

  • Marvell Armada 1500(88de3100)1[1] 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, with a 750 MHz GPU2
  • 1 GB DDR3 Memory
  • 4 GB Samsung Flash NAND - K9GBG08U0A-SCBO
  • Single USB Port
  • IR Blaster

Mainboard

Connections / Connectors / Switches

  • CN1 - UART (115200 8n1)
  • CN3 - SPI?
  • CN4 - WiFi / BT
  • CN5 - JTAG?
  • CN6 - USB
  • SW1 - Reboot
  • SW2 - Factory Reset (recovery?)

Updates

Vizio uses a custom update method, like on their TV's and Tablets. Specifically the updates are provided thru Update Logic (ULI), and are pulled from the ULI servers, then decrypted. After decryption, the box is booted into recovery, the update is verified (it's a normal GTV update at this point), then installed.

Update History

  • U01.002.001 - Initial Factory Version
  • U2.2.7 - First Update
  • U2.3.1 - Adds 5.1 Surround Sound

Root Demo

On August 25th the Exploitee.rs team demonstrated a root for the Vizio Co-Star on the latest fimware. Source
